A warning to anyone still playing WOW, my account got hacked on Tuesday night. I tried to log in on Wednesday and instead of allowing me to use my username it prompted me for a BattleNet email address. Apparently someone got a hold of my unsername and password and went out and linked it to a BattleNet account they setup. Bastards stole my account with my level 80 mage, Carbos.
I was able to call account support at 1-800-592-5499 and have them unmerge my account from the BattleNet account. They in turn sent me a password reset. There suggestion was to immediately go out and create a BattleNet account and merge my existing account to it (which is the way they are going soon anyway). That would then prevent someone else from at least doing that again.
The account is currently suspended and they told me when I received a second email from Account Admin to reply that my account had been compromised and have them unsuspend it due to the fact that I hadn't done anything that warranted the suspension. Not sure at this time why it was suspended.
One more thing. Although they are currently sold out on the Blizzard.com store, they recommended getting an Authenticator. It's basically a random password generator (looks like a thumb drive) that works with their systems (when it's registered to an account) to randomly generate a numeric password each time you go to log into WOW. A bit annoying, but better than having some keylogger steal your account. I did notice on the BattleNet site that they have a cell phone version of the program that you can run on the iPhone and iPod touch. Their site says they'll becoming out with support for other phones in the future.
Last thing. I installed a logger package on my PC called Zemana AntiLogger. It found a program called antit.exe which was trying to access my registry. A little snooping around leads me it may have been involved with the hijacking. I'd recommend everyone do a scan for it (and other trojans, viruses, etc.) with at least more than one utility. You never know what may get by one package and not another.
Good luck and see you on-line!!!
