Last week I violated the COA loot rules in MC, and I thought I'd remind everyone to make sure they know the rules to avoid any problems.
My violation was rolling on mats Thursday, when I had recieved 2 epics on Wednesday. Thanks to a reminder from Row, I was able to return the shard I won and make things right.
I enjoy raiding with COA and I'd hate to see my rep ruined because of a rules oversight.
BTW, if you're not raiding with COA, you should consider it. We have new people on most outings, and the leaders explain the strats very well. In just a few weeks, I have 4 of 8 tier one pieces and an epic ZG necklace. Tonight, I hope to see Rag die for the 1st time.

Well in fairness, the loot rules regarding that stuff have been fluid from raid to raid group. There have been raids where the leader said it was ok to roll even though I had won an Epic the night before. And others it has been, an epic a week and you are done. It is best to inquire with the loot master But I agree the raiding is mostly fun and it does take time to learn the ropes. As people get geared up, it also becomes a bit easier on everyone as well!

Okay, the way it works is that if you've won an epic during the instances reset period you DON'T get to roll on other items. Keep in mind that Molten Core and BWL are considered to be the same instance for loot purposes. Onyxia is a separate instance for loot purposes though so if you've won and epic in MC/BWL for the reset period, but have NOT won an epic in Onyxia then you can roll on the non-epic loot in Onyxia. The sole exception to that rule is the Onyxia scale. Even if you have won an epic in the current Onyxia raid you can still roll on her scale as long as the toon you are on HAS NOT previously won a scale.
Now there may be other exceptions that could come up, like BOP patterns which the raid leader could open to everyone that has the ability to use the pattern even if they had won an epic for the reset period.
Hope this clears it up a bit.
