I didn't know this was possible until it happened to me last night.
There is a way to spoof names in chat so that you cannot tell the message isn't from the real character. At least, I didn't see any difference. I don't know if this is an Incognito hack or a variant of what the gold sellers use to spam anonymously. No, I don't want to see directions on how to do this posted here. This is a cat that should be stuffed back in the bag.
It happened in guild chat and was done as a joke. When I asked who was doing it, they whispered me and fessed up. No harm and I don't expect it to happen again. But it does make me a bit paranoid knowing the ability exists. If you want to broadcast amusing messages/conversations, use the name of one of your alts or make something up. When it comes to ID theft, no matter how small, I don't have a sense of humor.

I saw this on the new server I am on and it is fairly easy to figure out. Just check the id on notes immediately above the one that has the wrong name.
Someone was offering 10 gold to the first person to respond to the message. But the name was spoofed. The person tried to deny it, but when pressed they fessed up.

Ah, that explains the conversation-style of the messages. The names had to alternate. Good to know how to track this down.
Thanks,
