It is interesting, and I'll say that I'm encouraged that Emmert is pretty open about what they did wrong with CO and Star Trek in interviews. And while I'm not a fan of DnD 4th Edition, I think it's pretty well suited for a mmo or video/computer game ( for tabletop pnp games, Pathfinder is miles above 4th as far as I'm concerned).
Having said all that, I'm bummed that the rumors are true about Cryptic doing this. Also, it doesn't sound like it'll have GM tools, which is honestly why I still have NWN 1 on my hard drive after 7 years.I still play in a Sunday weekly game with some folks over at Neverwinterconnections.com . Almost as much fun as playing at a table.
Could turn out to be fun though, and I can't blame them for not having GM features.Something like that probably wouldn't appeal to enough folks to make it financially viable. What could make it really interesting is how they plan to handle content, if it'll be subscription based or be some kind of f2p deal. What might be really cool is if they make it possible for content creators to make money off of/own their stuff somehow. Similar to authors being able to sell mods ( through WOtC I believe) for DnD. They would also need a really good matching system ( better than Gamespy) for people to get together to play or even schedule games in advance ( kind of how Neverwinter Connections works).
