Crafting was a bright spot in Ultima Online. I think turbine might have gone down the wrong path with their design of the crafting system. In UO, all you needed was the base skills, materials and tools to work your craft. It's elegance was in the simplicity of the design. It was newbie friendly and more profitable than hunting/gathering in the wild. There were flaws but over all it worked well.

It is not that the Turbine system is complicated, I thought the same at first. It is that it is incredibly grindy and just way to many components to make something. Crafts are interdependent on each other which is good in theory but not very well executed. Turbine also has this crazy fascination with luck/lotto systems, it's a **** shoot when trying to make good crit gear even at the highest percent chances.
With the book 8 changes we are going to have a lot more storage space and it looks like actually less components. When people go and barter the old stuff they'll need to keep in mind that some items were useful to more then 1 craft so will need to split the barter items they get.
