As some of you know I am trying to install a new HD. This will be my third time installing xp, after having to reformat.
This got me thinking (scary huh?), I will have only 1 HD in the pc now. I removed the PCI controller card but then I started wondering if having it in would give the HD more stability?
Anyone know?

Hmmm, I dont think so. How do I know that? When I got the pc originally it had the pci controller in it, with just one hard drive.
Does that mean I need it?

Depends on the type of hard drive and motherboard.
If the hard drive is IDE then most motherboards have on board IDE controllers. You can sometimes get a boost in performance by using a Promise Control that uses a better chipset. Somewhat like on board Audio vs a using Soundcard.
If the hard drive is SATA or other non IDE and the motherboard doesn't support it, then you would need the controller card.
I would look up the specs on your motherboard. The model number is usually printed on the board somewhere. Just put the model number in to a search engine and it should pull any website that is asscociated with it. Most motherboard manufacturors put manuals, firmware and driver updates on their support site.
