I also called gateway to see what graphics card is available for my son's pc.
They say Appian Graphics 2 port DVH PCI 64mb and quoted me a price of $250. Does anyone know anything about this card, or where I could find one on line?

what machine is your son using? PCI cards run slower and use the CPU more then an APG card... so if you have an APG slot, for 200.00 you can get a near top of the line Gforce 5900+ ....

Hmm actually I don't know if his pc has an AGP slot. I guess I can open it up later and check that out. I figured maybe I could upgrade his video card and approprate it for my personal use to at least play SWG until I save the money for my own new pc.
He has a Gateway 310T with a built in graphic's controller which plainly just sucks!. Gateway says the Appian Graphics is the best for what I need.
Let me tell you something though, I don't believe a word Gateway says! When I bought the pc for him I told the sales rep that it would be used for gaming. So I especially wanted a video card that supported 3D, vertical sync, etc. He assured me the system I bought could do it. It was a load of bs.
His pc won't even boot SWG because it doesn't support the type of lighting SWG uses. As for DAoC I can get that to boot for him but he can not go to Gothwaite harbor. As soon as a "ship" comes in the machine crashes to desktop.
Let me know if you need anymore info for it. I paid $510 for the whole system and I don't want to end up paying half that for a video card. Geez, I hate Gateway.
Thanks for your help so far, it's much appreciated.

thats why i never buy pre built systems.. they end up bein either nucklebusters to work on, proprietary parts, or just plain worthless. I have built my last 3 systems, and have had no problems.. and i have build about 50 more for relatives, friends, etc. Its the way to go these days. Any prebuilt system from Gateway, Dell, etc are usually less then what you need, and way over priced. Ok when you find out what slots he has available, go to www.newegg.com and look up vid cards. Thats where i do my shopping, and with all the parts i've bought, ive only had to return one mother board. You can get a gforce 5900+ <not ultra> for 187.00 + shipping. That comes to less then going to best buy to get the same board.....just takes 2-3 days to get there.
