Hail Defenders,
My best friend's daugher is headed off to college in September. She has asked my advice in getting a laptop for around 1k. Now desktops I am pretty sure on how to select. Laptops I have no clue. Any advice, suggestions, web links would be appreciated.
She will be using the laptop for her school work and to do research on line. Only game I know that she play's is the Sims series. Hope this help you out.

If all shes doing is playing SIMS and doing schoolwork, Dell has a decent laptop on back to school special that should fit her needs. For what i consider the top line Laptops right now are the sony VAIO, but they run some good money for them www.sony.comwww.dell.com

Unless she is a gamer (and laptops that play high-end games are expensive!), foror $1099 you can get her an excellent 12" iBook from Apple. Just the right size to stuff in a backpack and comes with a CD burner/DVD player combo drive. Our office is a mix of Sony and Apples, but our executive assistant just switched to one of these and she loves it. And maybe for Christmas if the grades have been good, Santa could bring your daughter an iPod. Actually that would be good with any laptop choice you make. www.apple.comDual-platformed but a Mac-head at heart, HB Jr/Vinny

There is nothing easier, more elegant and cooler to use than Apple products. The only limitation is software availablity. Some things take months to come out for the Mac (if they ever do come out). If all she is going to be doing is reasearch and school work. Then a Mac should be a great choice IMO
