I too found the lvl 40 and 45 epic out of control last night...apparently Mythic "hot fixed it"
Hot Fixes

I sure appreciate everyone who emailed and sent feedback forms with their information. Here are the hot fix notes that should address the problems. Thanks, and I apologize for any frustration last night.
Notes:
- (Midgard) Player's should no longer crash when approaching the campfires near the entrance of Darkness Falls in the Vale of Mularn.
- The monsters will not scale as high in level now in the epic quest dungeons.
- Members of the Path of Harmony with the Seeking Glory quest in their journals will now be warned by the trainer that they must complete the quest before they can begin their epics.
- The keyword issue affecting the Midgard epics Caught Redhanded, Searching for Skelder, Finding Freyvid, and Eliminating Ingmar is fixed. Players can say [after all] to advance the quest.
- The Salve of Seelie Desire and the Draught of Unseelie Dread for the Tomte Tide Midgard epic quest can no longer be used in the frontiers or other inappropriate areas. The objects can only be used in the appropriate quest regions as indicated in the quest.
- Sorcerers will now be able to complete the Into the Spider's Lair Albion epic quest.
- Players can now accept and progress appropriately through The Final Strike epic quest for Hibernia.
- Blademasters will now be able to proceed through the Breaking the Seal epic quest for Hibernia.
- Ruurg, a zombie in Prydwyn Ossuary of Camelot Hills, is no longer charmable.
- The delve for "Call of a Thousand Storms" has been adjusted to correctly display the following characteristics: Duration: 2 minutes and Recast timer: 3 minutes.
- (Hibernia) The festival vendor that sells the 'tent' kit has been modified to sell the proper kit. The object that was being sold previously would not deploy properly. These items have been modified to properly deploy in housing zones. (note: you may need to relog for this change to occur if you have any tents you bought prior to the hotfix)
- The campfires that can be purchased at the festivals are now keyed to last five minutes when used. They also have a one minute timer before you can use another object after setting one.
- The campfires have also been fixed so they can not be placed in capital cities as intended.
- The tents that can be purchased at the festivals are now keyed to last ten minutes when used. They also have a one minute timer before you can use another object after setting one
- Players in all Midgard and Hibernia realms who have completed their epics and are level 50 can now select the advanced epic track. If the player is on any of the new epics, level 5 through 25, they can return to their trainer and advance to the level 30 epic by speaking to them.
- In Albion, players who have completed the old Epic quests and are currently working on of the level 5 to 25 epic quest can speak with the following NPCs for the option to advance to the level 30 Epic:
Defenders of Albion: Sir Amren
The Academy: Class trainers or Master Narudos
Guild of Shadows: Class trainers or Dostram
Defenders of Albion: Sir Amren
Church of Albion:
Arawnites (Necromancer, Reaver Heretic): Arawnite Envoy Cleric, Paladin: Bishop Kustan
