I'd like to make a post about possibly taking RvR to the next level for some of us..... I think we, as a guild, have the chance to make a solid RvR group that supports itself. Alot of us still have lowbie tunes, and that in due time, we can fix easy enough. What I'd like us to do is possibly design a solid RvR group template, and then, we as players decide/agree on filling those roles. In example.. Last night, the group I was in consisted of 2 Friars,2 Reavers, a Thur to begin with. With my toon, I felt just about useless. I was thinking if each of us created a toon designed around an RvR group, we could kick some a$$! Was just a thought, but wondered what others may think. (volunteers for scout role)

RvR here is comparable to GvG in Shadowbane.
What i found to be the best mix was : 2 stealthers <scout/infiltrator>, 2 full time healers <clerics>, 2 part time healers/tanks friars and paladins fill this role., 2 full time tanks <id suggest an armsman and a mercenary> 1 theurg/cabalist, and 1 sorc.
there is my idea for a group.. comments/questions?

I think the type of group we have will depend a lot on the type of fighting we will be doing. If it's going to be primarily keep and tower stand-offs then simple: 8 Scouts and/or ranged attackers. What I would like to do however though, is run interference and kill off stragglers or serve as a counter force to enemy stealthers picking off albs trying to get to the big fights to do that the main thing we need is a speeder and some healing, beyond that simply Damage. Your purest damage dealers are Mercs/Armsmen. CC would also be a good add. As such, a typical 8 man group would be something like this:
Cleric (Maybe Friar) Cleric Minstrel Sorc Merc Merc Merc Merc
Realistically most of us are going to have one main character - once you start adding in the RA, ML, SCing and gear abilities it becomes even more limiting to one character. More important than finding the optimal cookie cutter type of group to level, I think we just need to get accustomed to working together and defining our roles with the classes we do have. I realize Friar's aren't the best RvR class, but I'm pretty invested in Mack both with RA's and ML's, Onoa is too with her character. Reaver's do have a lot to offer in open field fighting. Debuffs, pulse and spells for interrupts (and stealther revealing), slam for 9 Second stun, guard for squishies, and a wicked back attack.
The most important RvR skills are not really class based at all. Target acquisition and quick assisting are the key to any good group. Neutralize (ie Kill or CC) the enemies support and squishy damage dealers (Casters) then round out by killing the tanks. No matter what group combo we pick up I have no illusions we could stand up to High RR, high ML Hib or Mid guilds in an 8 vs 8 setting. Alb class utility is too low, and all the ML and RA tools the mids and hibs have would make it very tough to compete. For the time being I'll be using Mack in RvR and levelling Oyea, Skook and Thantes on the side. More than likely though even if I did get those other 3 up in levels I'll probaly only use them situationally and continue to use Mack.

Ok--lets work off of that for starters. We have a Reaver/Friar/Thur for group so far! ;D Now to learn tactics as a group =-)

Main thing in RvR is familiarity with your surrounding and the reactions of those around you be it one grp and more.
A good thing to do is rotate ur view, have someone always looking around (use the "~" key and the arrows keys). Set ur camera view and use the "d" key to reset when combat initiates.
Group composition depends on group mission. Roaming grp 3-4 tanks, 2 clerics, 1 one cc and 1-2 casters; for this the first mezz will always win unless there is another support grp. And everyone better know not to break mezz. Speed is essential.
For siege: ranged hvy and 2-3 support. Siege master- a warlord with plenty of equipment. For dual purpose classes (friars and minstrels) know what is expected of u - be it healer or tank - CC, peeler, chaser etc.
A gank group - 2 infi's, 4 scouts, 2 minstrels. These group has to have discipline - who attacks first etc.
The key is know the actions of group members.

Ok-thanks all. I appreciate the information. Seems experience is more key than the toons. As so, I am eagerly looking to get out there and kill some baddies!

To test out class vs class - we could do duels.
If u want to experience the devastation a caster can do to u, a hvy tank pounding u to a pulp, or a merc slicing and bleeding u.
** (Updated) One thing to remember is that most ppl in rvr are buffed to the gills (the advent of nerfing smite clerics).
Like Mack is saying in the next reply, play the class u like to play. As for me, i developed different classes to find out how they worked and i like all the ones i have made- I don't understand pets classes so i haven't made one. Another reason I made so many different classes is to u understand the limitations and strengths of each class.

To add one last comment: It is better to have players playing classes they enjoy then not playing uber-classes they don't.
Basically play whatever you want and you'll always be welcome in DoJ RvR groups. If necessary we'll subdivide to two smaller groups to accomodate everyone as we did on the weekend.

I like Arlo's gank group it would be excellent for amushes or unclaimed tower taking, also relic stealing.
last hope point defense would be 4+ pally group amost un touchable in melee and the multiple heal chanting i haved used aganist princes in DF we were untouchable.

WHen the game comes back up im gonna start speccingout a scout... i played one in Shadowbane, so the transition shouldnt be too shabby.. but in this game i will need lots of helo lvling, since scouts are not too well equipped for PvE

Since scout seems to be the current flavor I will probably make one in few weeks(then my luck it be useless lol). I'd like to push Cor to 50 then do the ol /level 20 My rvr thoughts- I am going to sit back and be healer/resser with my friar. That is where I feel I'll be most useful as I am just not as quick as all those youngins out there on the battlefield heh. I got to brave during the mid relic raid and got owned so much heh. Jairyd we might still have some low level leather in the guild vault. I seem to remember some 20 stuff in there waiting to be salvaged.

Pftt! and Hvark, Yshao/Ysedor too at times hehe. I think you only forgot me cause you log off just about the time I'm getting on each night so I'll forgive yah.
Tysus, Mack/Skookom, and Ashman/Arlion spent some time running around the hib frontier late last night and we dropped a couple key port towers, then defended an alb held tower (Dun Da Behn 3) pretty successfully against hibs and mids. We got a few RP's and did a fair bit of roaming. Once the free level thing hits I'm going to be concentrating on getting Skook to 48 so he can finish his autotraining and get some useful chants to act as a speed/Power Bot.
I had a bit of success running around solo hitting small groups or solo people from the back while they were flaming up towers. Think the best small scale RvR we are going to have is catching people on the way to keeps/towers.
