Nooo!!!!!!! Sorry, I am extremely biased against FFXI. Below is a review I wrote of it when Jaxs asked about the game a while back: 12/02/2003 at 10:39:54 I am extremely bitter about FFXI. I was playing the monk class (Bahamut server), and I took on this quest to get armour from the tanner in San d'Oria. Well I was tasked with getting 3 giant sheep skins, so I go off for days hunting these stupid wild sheep, dying frequently and finally I get the darn skins, take them back and the stupid NPC tailor makes me a pair of gloves..... My character - MONK - uses brass knuckles and the like, a pair of leather gloves do me absolutely no use whatsoever. As well I was a little miffed that I get one measly pair of gloves for THREE giant sheepskins. I would think that with, you know GIANT sheepskins I would get maybe a tunic or something. The only armour I could find for my character made him look like a gay french prostitute. Now, I completely understand all the past complaints I've ever heard from women gamers about the Xena type chainmail bustiers and the like. It's freaking demeaning running around with your package framed, your butt highlighted with skin tight shorts, your thighs exposed, and your tunic (sorry, I mean leather straps) hanging on by the nipples. Thank goodness for 1st person mode. Picture below: Seriously though, this is what I was stuck with. This is the only armour wearable in San D'Oria by a level 9 monk. I suppose I could have knocked off some DEF rating and kept wearing my newbie armour, but dying sucks. Partially the problem is my race selection, but I picked the Elvaan race based on higher VIT & MND stats to help out with my intent to play the Monk and White Mage classes. Anyways, the picture above is really a good encapsulation for everything that is wrong with FFXI. Those clothing options shouldn't even be available, they were all that was available for me to wear if I wanted to increase my armour's defensive rating. Other than that my impressions weren't all the great. Graphics are nice, but not really any better than DAOC's latest offering. There's also the sickening cuteness of everything. I would really like to kill all Taru-taru's. Which brings up the other point - no PvP, vague rumors of PvP in development for March '04 (Yeah, whatever.... Editted note to add, March '04 is here and still no PvP) Even a DAOC realm type system would work out all right with the various kingdoms. The only thing they have is the conquest system which basically amounts to out monsterbashing the players from other regions (oh boy, wooohooo.... whack a foozle forever) Controls are absolute suck with the menu selection and all. Customization is very poor. Camera angles / keys are crap as well, the actual game pretty much amounts to bashing bunnies then bashing bigger bunnies. Yah there's some interesting combos/skill chains, but I didn't make it that far in the game before just dropping it. The server thing is asinine, particularily the combined japanese/NA servers. Monster Aggro is weird, and running to a zone line to avoid getting killed by adds is again inane. It is Final Fantasy, but outside of seeing a moogle at my mog house and higherlevel characters burn by me on their chocobos and the odd water / cura cast on me there isn't much other in common. The job system is interesting, but melee / mage hybirds aren't really viable so my dreams of playing a DAOC Friar equivalent are sort of shot. There's not really any tantalizing end game (ie: roleplay or PvP) to keep me interested and drive me to treadmill up. In closing: If you absolutely have to play all the Final Fantasy games then yah, go ahead and buy it. If you're on the fence and sort of undecided, then don't waste your money unless you actually like monster bashing followed by more monster bashing, with a sprinkle of stupid downtime and forced grouping on top. Of all my complaints though, the inability to alt-tab out of the game bothers me the most. Yah yah, probaly in XP you can run in windowed mode or some such thing, but on my old win98 machine I have to run in full screen mode. When I have to sit to regen health I would like to surf the web or something else besides staring at the stupid screen. (edit note, I think they have added windowed mode since I played, not 100% sure though) Right now (ie when I did the review, currently playing DAOC) I've got a game of the PS re-release of FF4 (SNES NA FF2) running which I feel more compelled to play than FFXI. Take that as you may.

No see swg really isn't for me when you showed me it i thought it was kinda dumb. Also if i don;t like it then we have a store called Game Junkie were you can return it and then they resell it so i guess i'm at no major risk. But i'm really getting bored with UO so i'm going to try this for a while i think although probubly not for a while since i don't have the money to pay for it yet.

Personally if you're looking for somethng to play for a little while,I'd strongly recomend NeverWinter Nights. You can hook up with other players through NeverWinter Connections to play in traditional pnp style ( played with a Dungeon Master) games,or you can also try out one fo the many persistent world servers ( most of those are crap, but there are some good ones). You can also download a ton of good user created mods for it.And there's no monthly fee.The only thing is You'd have to also buy the expansions in asble to play most PWs and mods at this point ( about 50 bucks total for the NWN Gold which comes with NWN and the first xp Shadows of Undrentide, and the newest xp Hordes of the Underdark.) With Hordes they finally made a good official mod,the story is great. Just more foods for thought.
