It's not vaporware anymore heh. Forsaken Virtues is currently scheduled to launch at the end of 2014. This is like Ultima but isn't exactly an Ultima as that is owned by EA. This and a whole lot more is explained in the FAQ. www.shroudoftheavatar.com/?page_id=19#faq_01Pleased read the whole FAQ before pledging. www.shroudoftheavatar.com/?page_id=19#faq_01game and kickstart info www.shroudoftheavatar.com/?page_id=28012I haven't pledged anything but it states if you contribute, pre game release, $45 (up from $30 in March2013) you get a "DRM-free, digital download of the game" plus Exclusive Early Bird Alpha + Beta Access (estimated Alpha delivery in December 2013). Also, the way I read it, this is only for the first of a planned five game series. Apparently the access has already started but it sounds like they are still a lot more alpha than beta at this point. In other words, don't expect to do anything but test. No word yet if you can build a pyramid as a house heh.

I spent a lot of time yesterday digging through this. It seems that many of the things I enjoyed most about UO...crafting, housing, guild structure, etc are being incorporated, but very much improved. I really like the concept they have on guild houses as well as personally owned housing. See link on crafting: www.tentonhammer.com/features/previews/shroud-of-the-avatar-release-2-exclusive-first-look-at-craftingI pledged to the game yesterday. There are a lot of perks that come with investing pre-release. When you look at the team driving this and their history, I think the risk is minimal. I also like the fact that it is non-subscription based.

This Youtube video is to Shroud Of The Avatar: The Mad Hermit's Guide To Making Crazy Money but there are lots more on the right hand side. www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMhX9EtBkKMOne thing I noticed right away is that the mess in this guy's pack looks like many of the packs I carried in UO heh.

Pre-Alpha R3 guide to making money! That won't change at all upon final release I'm sure. I wonder if anyone will kill the king in beta . The graphics in a way kinda look like Archet or Breeland.

I just got an email from Shroud. I applied it to my account already. Apparently I could have started with their $20m and added only $25 to get to the Adventurer pledge level. Instead I am up to Founder. Alienware Sponsors $20 Pledge Upgrade Coupon Alienware's powerful gaming rigs are a perfect match for Shroud of the Avatar! To show their support, Alienware is sponsoring $20 SotA Pledge Upgrade Coupons to members of their Alienware Arena community! These coupons can be used to start a SotA pledge account (for new backers), or to add $20 to an existing pledge account. If, for example, you have a $90 Royal Artisan Pledge, you can use the Alienware coupon to bump you up to a $110 Virtual Collector Pledge. Pretty sweet deal, right? So, hurry over to the Alienware Arena website and get your $20 Pledge Upgrade Coupon now! shroudoftheavatar.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3294f6954bc80c513f5e4a631&id=fb7466bb34&e=baea4e311c[NOTE: Only one Alienware Pledge Upgrade Coupon can be used per account. Coupon does not apply to Add-On Store items]

I've made a kickstarter contribution and am looking forward to trying out this game. Guess I'm kinda nostalgic for my UO days.

I like how they're publicly open with what they're testing and posting a schedule, kinda makes it interesting to follow along.
Turbine would be all secretive as if their game is some black ops project. If anyone even mentions they're testing they get removed from the program.

I only played a little. It was interesting to see the improvements but they are definitely still in alpha. I didn't see a whole lot of difference than last time except for the slight additions to combat. I didn't explore enough to see the other listed systems. They are knocking the bugs out pretty quick as they get reported.

For those playing the alpha releases, the developers have offered a gift to those who log in to each release and complete at least one quest. "So we are introducing a unique hat that can only be obtained by playing in each release and completing a quest." They need help testing.
This is a play weekend.

The more I play Release 11 during this extended playing time, the more I am enjoying the game. All the things I loved about UO are in, crafting, housing, guilds, etc. It will be interesting to see how things mature.

With Pre-Alpha Release 12, SOTA is now available 24/7. There will still be wipes at times however. I've been working up my fighter, now time to work on crafting and place a house when I get enough gold.

One more note...there is the availability of Player Owned Towns. You will be able to work with the Dev team to decide where you want it placed. Would be pretty cool to have enough players to participate.

I've been playing this with my guild (The Syndicate). They are heavily involved with the developers. Richard Garriott came to our 2013 Conference and spoke. I got to eat lunch with him....yeah I was all the way at the other end of a long table from Garriott, but it was the same table. Even saw his scar where they removed his appendix before his Soviet space trip (Yep, he pulled up his shirt and showed everyone at the table). This year Starr Long came to our 2014 conference. Talked with him and he even gave me his business card, heh. I actually pledged enough to get a townhouse, as it looks like this will be my guild's next big game. It appears to me that housing will be limited and very expensive; ditto for guild halls and player run towns.
Don't have much time to play at present, with the holidays and all. But, I'm retired now, so once the Christmas season is behind us, I'll be playing more. At the moment, I only play SOTA when our GM asks us to play and give him feedback to send to the devs. If you see Drya LLTS in game....that's me.
